Delhi Schools Get Early Winter Break From Nov 9–18 As Air Quality Worsens

Date:

New Delhi: In response to the severe air quality levels plaguing the national capital, the Delhi government has taken a proactive step by advancing the winter break in schools. Starting tomorrow (November 9), schools will remain closed until November 18.

This decision aims to safeguard the health of students and ensure their well-being amidst the challenging air conditions. The national capital was shrouded in dense and hazardous smog, with the air quality persisting in the ‘severe’ category on Wednesday.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data reveals that Anand Vihar recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 452, while RK Puram, Punjabi Bagh, Sri Aurobindo Marg, and Shadipur reported AQI values of 433, 460, 382, and 413, respectively, all falling under the ‘severe’ category.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday expressed grave concern over the hazardous air quality in the national capital and directed that farmers should stop stubble burning forthwith in Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh, saying it was one of the major contributors to air pollution.
