Arunachal has potential to promote textiles sector: Irani

Itanagar, Sep 13 (PTI) Arunachal Pradesh has the potentialto promote the textiles sector and give a fillip toentrepreneurship and job creation, Union Minister Smriti Iranisaid today. The Textiles Minister was speaking after inaugurating anapparel and garment making centre in Pasighat in East Siangdistrict. Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, MoS(Textiles) Ajay Tamta, Chief Minister Pema Khandu, stateCooperation Minister Tapang Taloh and Lok Sabha MP NinongEring were also present on the occasion, an official releasesaid. While dedicating the centre to the people, Irani said herministry would set up six more incubation centres to bringmodern ready-made garment industry to the state. It was the first organised effort under the North EastRegion Textile Promotion Scheme (NERTPS) of the Ministry ofTextiles, she said. Congratulating the entrepreneurs who would be running thefacility, the minister assured them all possible support inmaking the units commercially viable and self-sustainable. "It will give an opportunity to local entrepreneurs toconvert their ideas and designs into flourishing businessesand opportunities to the unemployed trained youths and providea fillip to the traditional sectors like handlooms andhandicrafts to convert the traditional designs into moderngarments and market opportunities," Irani said. "I have directed my ministry to promote single windowclearances and reduce paperwork to the minimum whereverpossible. "I have begun work on creating infrastructure for skillsdevelopment and textile manufacturing, job creation and marketlinkages after recent announcement of the Rs 6,000 crorepackage by the Centre," she said. Stating that development of the Northeast is high on thelist of priorities of the NDA government, she said this wouldneed concerted efforts in the face of various obstacles thattend to derail economic development in the region. "The local products can have tremendous demand in nationaland international markets if properly channelised," she said. Speaking on the occasion, Rijiju termed it as a boon forthe state. The Chief Minister appealed to the youth to take interestin entrepreneurship and promote export of indigenous products,the release added. PTI UPL DKBABM
