Tamil Nadu Farmers temporarily breaks protest after 41 days

The long going farmers protest which started from Tamil Nadu to Jantar Mantar finally was called off on Sunday by the assurance of Tamil Nadu chief minister Eddapadi Palinasami. The protest witnessed various forms of agitation from carrying skulls of farmers who committed suicide to walking nude on roads and drinking urine. Chief Minister Palanisami visited Delhi for Government Council meeting in NITI Aayog, after that he spent an hour with the farmers to assure them their demands.

However, the farmers warned they will start the protest again if their demands are not met soon. Various big politicians including Rahul Gandhi, Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh met the farmers at Jantar Mantar, but no assurance was made.
“After 41 days of protest at Jantar Mantar where we ate, slept and lived on these roads, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister met us today,” Said chief of the protestors, Desiya Thenindhiya Nathigal Inaippu Vivasayigal Sangam, in an interview

They are protesting to get help from the government to get relief in drought conditions prevailing in the state. They are unhappy with the 3000 rupees compensation that is provided by the state, they are also demanding to interlink the rivers, rupees 5000 pension for farmers over the age of 60. They want a formation of Cauvery board to resolve the Cauvery issue and regulate water.
