Trendy Kurtas to replace colonial robes at IIT grad ceremony

Date:

The State Higher Education Minister said, “Indian dresses will replace robes during convocation in universities across Madhya Pradesh in the next academic session.”

After a widespread outrage was raised by students of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D) over the order saying “full covered decent western or Indian dresses” on the occasion of House Day, the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister also made an announcement where it asked students to wear robes on convocation ceremony.

At the first convocation ceremony of Atal Behari Vajpayee Hindi University, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan wore a saffron coloured turban and stole. A similar attire was donned by State Higher Education Minister Jaybhan Singh Pawaiya.

Similarly, all the students present in the ceremony also dressed themselves in yellow turbans and same coloured stoles.

Further, the girl students wore sarees while the boys were in kurta-pyajamas.
