Dodgers pitcher Ryu continues to shine on road

Date:

Ryu Hyun-Jin fanned nine batters in his return from an injury as the Los Angeles Dodgers won their second-straight game over the New York Mets 4-3.

Ryu, who missed more than three weeks with inflammation in his left shoulder, continues to dominate on the road this Major League Baseball season as he improved to four wins and two losses overall. On Wednesday, he pitched six innings and allowed just two runs on nine hits.

The left-handed South Korean kept the Mets scoreless through his first five innings and extended his road scoreless streak to start the season to 31 innings, the second best mark to begin a season in the last 50 years. Only Roger Clemens (35 innings) in 2005 went longer.

Ryu showed no ill-effects from his time on the injured list early on as he struck out two Mets in the first inning and five in his first time through the order.

New York threatened to bust through in the third inning with a pair of singles and a walk, but Ryu got Curtis Granderson to go after a fastball to get the third out and end the inning.

Yasiel Puig, Hanley Ramirez and Adrian Gonzalez all hit solo home runs to help the Dodgers improve to 16-9 on the road this season.
