Date:

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh responded to the statement of veteran Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah about intolerance in the country.

Speaking at an event at a medical college in Lucknow, Singh said, “I don’t think the tolerance that exists in India can be found anywhere else in the world.”

He further went on to say that the diversity in India is what makes it a prosperous nation. “India is the only country in the world where people from various prominent religions co-exist peacefully… They have contributed to making India empowered, self-reliant and prosperous and will continue to do so,” Singh said.

Shah made a reference to the Bulandshahr unrest while speaking to a YouTube channel on Thursday saying that the “the death of a cow is more important than that of a police officer”. He also said that he worried about his children over communal violence.

“We have already witnessed that the death of a cow has more significance (in today’s India) than that of a police officer,” he had said in the interview. “Are the lives of Muslims less valuable than the life of a cow?”, Shah said in the video interview.
