Women focused startup SHEROES buys health app Maya

Date:

Women-only community platform SHEROES acquired Bengaluru-based women’s health app Maya in an all-stock deal. With this move the startup has expanded the health offerings for its 14 million members.

Founded by John Paul, Maya enables women to keep track of their health via a mobile application. Used by women in over 20 countries, Maya offers diagnostic tests, online doctor consultations, fertility predictions and pregnancy tracking.

The platform is accessible in 14 international and vernacular languages, including Hindi and Tamil.

“Health is one of our fastest growing communities on the SHEROES app, and adding Maya to our bouquet of products, helps us strengthen our offering in this space,” said Sairee Chahal, founder-CEO of SHEROES told Economic Times. “SHEROES is committed to building the women’s internet—an experience which helps women find advice, community, resources and opportunity.”

What started as a jobs and careers community for SHEROES has now evolved into a women’s only social network with as many as 65 communities online including arts, travel, writing, bazaar (peer-to-peer selling), family and legal advice, parenting, careers, and health. It plans to have 100 million subscribers in 3-4 years.

Chahal says SHEROES has made huge investments in trust and safety, such as reporting mechanisms, and is open to more acquisitions. “We are building out women’s internet. If we come across communities that are useful to us or come across products or platforms with deep-tech capabilities, we are very open to it. We are happy to evaluate anything that makes a woman’s life richer. Since we are building a new category, we are not going to build everything ourselves,” she said.

Backed by Leo Capital, Anand Chandrasekaran, Lumis Partners, Raghav Bahl, SHEROES made several acquisitions in the last couple of years like parenting platform Babygogo, online career restart platform Women Restart and relationship and sexual health counselling platform LoveDoctor.

According to Chahal, the startup is ready to make more acquisition if it finds merit in the product that syncs with the company’s expansion plan
