Today Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in China on the sidelines of the BRICS leaders meet. It was Prime Minister Modi’s second meeting with Chinese president in last three months. A state-run Chinese Xinhua news agency quoted, Mr. Xi saying “China is willing to work with India to maintain their hard-won, sound relations, and further advance their cooperation,”.
During the meeting Mr. Modi underlined India’s concern over CPEC, he said china should respect India’s concern on strategically important key issues that includes Chinese investment in Pakistan occupied and India’s membership in NSG. Mr. Modi highlighted the there is a need to address the causes of terrorism originating from neighborhood rather than preventing International actions against terrorists like Masood Azhar.
The Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson, Vikas Swarup said while briefing about the meeting “The Prime Minister told President Xi that it is of paramount importance that India and China respect each other’s aspirations,”.
“We ought to respect and give consideration to each other’s concerns, and use constructive methods to appropriately handle questions on which there are disputes,” Xi said, according to China’s Foreign Ministry.
