Bajirao Mastani is an exquisitely crafted epic

Date:

New Delhi: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Bajirao Mastani’ is an epic historical romance drama. It has intense visual cinematic appeal with opulent costumes, grand sets, well-directed battle scenes and great cinematography.

The movie has lived up to its expectations and definitely makes for a winning watch. The endearing chemistry between one of Bollywood’s favorite couples both on and off screen – Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, makes this movie even more appealing.

The movie also touches on the association and the conflicts between the Marathas and the Nizams. Various customs followed by the Marathas back in that time are also shown. The game of royal politics is depicted in full.

The movie narrates the love story of Maratha warrior and ruler Peshwa Baji Rao I and his second wife Mastani.

Ranveer Singh portrayal as the brave Peshwa Bajirao I is stunning, while Deepika Padukone spellbounds on and all as his Mastani. She portrays the character with precision, both as a warrior in battle as well as Bajirao’s love interest. Priyanka Chopra plays Bajirao’s first wife Kashibai. Kashibai is a supportive wife and understands the love between Bajirao and Mastani.

Bhansali has definitely not paid much attention to historic details in order to make this two hour and twenty five minute film commercially viable.

The movie’s music has already created a buzz. Background score, direction, cinematography is all is set to get a nod from the critics.

Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone were trained by Daksha Sheth to master the Kalaripayattu art.

Bhansali had reportedly approached Daksha Sheth to train the pair in Kalaripayattu, an ancient Indian martial art. Sheth has also trained Padukone in the Kathak dance style.

The legendary classical Kathak dancer Pandit Birju Maharaj choreographed a Kathak song for Padukone. In fact, all the actors seem to have taken extensive language courses to meticulously deliver their respective dialogues. There is a song where Priyanka and Deepika are dancing together which you cannot afford to miss. This dance sequence reminds you about the legendary song dola re from Devdas performed by Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Bajirao has won the battle on screen. Be it winning the battle on field or wooing his Mastani (both on and off-screen) our Bajirao has done it all. But now, it will be a different battle altogether as he takes on the King of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan. We keep in mind the fact that Shah Rukh has always had an upper hand over his opponents at the box-office.
