The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced a fresh protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Kochi, Kerala, scheduled for November 7. The demonstration, titled “Jantar Mantar at Kochi”, will take place at Rajendra Maidan from 4 PM.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke will participate in the protest, alongside Vijay Mallangi, the party’s south zone lead, and national secretary Aafreen Nawaz. The group is demanding the cancellation of the voter roll revision exercise.
The demonstration marks CJP’s first major protest initiative since several of its leaders were detained in Delhi during an attempt to demonstrate against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the SIR exercise.
Last month, Delhi Police detained Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das for attempting to organise a protest at Jantar Mantar without permission.
Following the government’s decision to remove Jantar Mantar’s status as a designated protest location, Ranka and Das later staged a demonstration there by waving the national flag. Both were arrested and spent a week in jail before being released after assuring authorities that they would not organise further protests at the site while its status remained unchanged.
