New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday announced that the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls in six more states and Union Territories, including Chandigarh, will begin on November 20, 2026. The final voters’ list is scheduled to be published on January 21, 2027.
The six states and UTs are Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Mizoram, Odisha and Sikkim.
According to the schedule announced by the EC, rationalisation of polling stations will be completed by November 20. The integrated draft electoral rolls will be published on November 30, while the period for filing claims and objections will continue until December 30, 2026.
The disposal of claims and objections will be completed by January 16, 2027, followed by the publication of the final electoral rolls on January 21.
These six states and UTs are in addition to the 17 for which the EC announced the SSR schedule last month, taking the total number of states and Union Territories covered to 23.
The revision will be conducted in states and UTs where the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has been completed. These include Punjab, where Assembly elections are due early next year.
The SSR is conducted annually to facilitate the enrolment of eligible electors and new voters with January 1 as the qualifying date. It also allows advance applications for the subsequent qualifying dates of April 1, July 1 and October 1.
The EC said the SSR schedule for states and UTs where SIR is underway or has recently concluded will be announced later. These include Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Delhi, Tripura and Telangana.
For Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, where SIR has not yet begun, the schedule will be announced in due course, considering weather conditions.
The SSR was last conducted during the November 2024-January 2025 cycle. It was not held in the November 2025-January 2026 period as SIR was underway.
