FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be misleading.
Running a Reverse Image Search of the viral picture, the NM team spotted a news article in Al Arabiya, dated October 23, 2016. The visual in the article matches with the viral image, informing that it was created digitally by Syrian artist Tammam Azzam to showcase the Statue of Liberty made from the rubble of a destroyed building in Syria. Azzam confirms that the work was done by a photomontage on the computer.
Searching further, we came across the same picture published by Azzam on his personal Facebook feed, dated September 8, 2012, confirming that it was a photomontage.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming a Syrian artist built the sculpture of the Statue of Liberty using the ruins of his destroyed house, is misleading.
