Rahul should take over: Diggi

Date:

New Delhi: Stirring the hornet’s nest seems to be the favouriate pastime of Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh. The latest being his comments on Rahul Gandhi. Singh on Saturday said party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi should take charge of the party.

Singh said, “It’s a general feeling within Congress that the party has always encouraged younger workers and it’s time for Rahul Gandhi to take charge of the party.”

The party though has slammed him for his remarks and termed it his personal views.

Senior Congress leader Makhan Lal Fotedar said remarks were made keeping in mind his own interest. He said, “Digvijaya Singh wants to become a leader himself.”

Former Union minister Anand Sharma termed Singh’s remarks as his personal views. “These are his personal views. Congress has always taken a collective and considered view in interest of country. Sonia Gandhi is our source of inspiration. Rahul mobilises youth, he’s our future. Both give us strength.”

Congress has suffered its worst ever defeat in the Lok Sabha elections as the party was reduced to a mere 44 seats. Rahul was projected as the face of the party in the general elections. In the recently concluded Assembly elections, the party lost both the key states – Maharashtra and Haryana.
