New world number one Angelique Kerber won the US Open title. She gained victory over Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic by wining the two sets out of three 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
This was her second Slam of the season after winning a first major at the Australian Open in January.
Kerber was earlier seeded No. 2, and she overtook Serena Williams as No. 1 in the rankings.
