BCCI Announces ‘Impact Player’ Rule For T20, Here’s All You Need To Know

Date:

New Delhi: Major sports in the world provide an option of making a ‘tactical substitution’ during a particular match depending on the developing situations and conditions of the game.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the induction of the ‘Impact Player’ rule in the domestic T20 league i.e. Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

According to newswire agency ANI, BCCI added that “With the ever-growing popularity of T20 cricket, it is imperative that we look at introducing new dimensions which will make this format more attractive and interesting not only for our viewers but also the participating teams from a strategic viewpoint. “

The rule was first introduced in the Big Bash League (BBL) where it permits teams to substitute a member of their starting XI at the halfway point of the first innings (the ten-over mark in a complete T20 game), provided that the replacement player has not yet batted or bowled more than one over.

All you Need To Know About ‘Impact Player Rule’

  • The captain is supposed to name four players in substitute with the playing XI during the toss.
  • The rule can be used by manager/coach after informing the on-field umpires and the fourth umpire during the game.
  • One substitution can be made throughout the game. The Impact Player will be allowed to bowl the allotted number of overs after being replaced.
  • If a batting side sends in the Impact Player at the fall of a wicket or if the fielding team substitutes the Impact Player for an injured fielder in the middle of an over, the Impact Player can only be introduced at the end of an over and not during it.
  • The rule can be applied only before the completion of the 14th over. The move can only be made at the end of an over, or innings break.
  • The player replaced by the Impact Player can no longer be a part of the match.
  • In case of a delay in the start of the game and the number of overs per innings is reduced to less than 10 overs then the Impact Player rule won’t apply.
