Guwahati: Fiery spell from Nathan Ellis guided Punjab Kings to a five-run victory against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday.
Nathan Ellis went through the RR’s batting lineup as he picked up four wickets in his spell. Chasing 198 runs in the second innings, Rajasthan Royals lost the opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravichandran Ashwin early in the innings.
In-form batsman Jos Butler was dismissed by Ellis for 19 runs. Skipper Sanju Samson played a crucial knock of 42 runs but was caught out by the substitute fielder Matthew Short.
Towards the end of the chase, Debutant batsman Dhruv Jurel who was called in as an impact player played a power-packed inning of 32 runs in 15 deliveries.
Earlier in the match, batting first, Punjab Kings managed to build a crucial opening partnership of 90 runs with skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh. Dhawan returned unbeaten at 86 runs while Singh was dismissed at 60 runs. Bhanuka Rajapaksha was retired hurt after being hit by a shot played by Dhawan.
With this, PBKS will face SRH in the next game while RR will face DC next in the tournament.
