Date:

Chennai: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi kick-started the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari on Wednesday covering 3,570km in a span of 150 days.

In a major symbolic gesture DMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin handed over the Indian flag to Rahul Gandhi as a symbolic gesture to mark the event.

During the yatra, Rahul Gandhi is going to stay in a container for the next 150 days. According to reports, sleeping beds, toilets, and air-conditioners are also installed in some of the containers.

Sources close to Congress while talking to newswire agency ANI added that “about 60 such containers have been prepared and sent to Kanyakumari where a village has been set up in which all these containers have been placed. The container will be parked in a new place every day in the shape of a village for night rest. Full-time Yatris who stay with Rahul Gandhi will eat together and stay close,”

Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reached Chennai ahead of the launch of Congress’s Bharat Jodo Yatra on Tuesday.

The Congress describes the march as its biggest mass-contact program to date which extends 3,570-km from Kanyakumari to Kashmir in 150 days, reportedly accompanied by 118 more Congress leaders.

The Yatra’s stated goal is to bring the nation together and mobilize the people against the “prevailing politics of fear, bigotry, and prejudice,” while also drawing attention to issues including rising unemployment, rising costs, and widening inequities.
