New Delhi: Gujarat Police arrested Trinamool Congress’ national spokesperson Saket Gokhale on Monday night from Jaipur airport, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien said.
The arrested was made over a tweet by Gokhale about the Morbi bridge collapse. He flew from New Delhi to Jaipur on a 9 PM, when he landed, Gujarat Police was at the airport waiting for him and ‘picked him up’, Derek O’Brien tweeted.
“At 2 in the morning on Tue, he called his Ma and told her that they are taking him to Ahmedabad and he would reach Ahmedabad by noon today. The police let him make that one two-minute phone call and then confiscated his phone and all his belongings,” O’Brien said.
He further alleged that the Ahmedabad (police) cyber cell has filed a case about Gokhale’s tweet on the Morbi bridge collapse, adding ‘All this cannot silence TMC’.
The Gujarat Police has not yet specified the tweet by Gokhale yet and the state government has also not reacted to the matter yet.
However, the government’s fact-checking wing on December 1, 2022, flagged one of Gokhale’s tweets on the Morbi bridge collapse as FAKE.
