India signs higher education cooperation MoU with Portugal

Dr. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, Director IIT Roorkee, accompanied PM Narendra Modi on his state visit to Portugal where he signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Science and Technical Foundation of Portugal for cooperation in scientific and technical fields.

The MoU, titled MoU on Cooperation in the Fields of Higher Education and Scientific Research will see greater cooperation between higher education institutions in Portugal and the Indian Institute of Technology in Roorkee, Madras, and Gandhinagar. Under the terms of the MoU, students of both countries will be able to conduct research in their respective fields in either country, thus furthering their own progress as well as progress in technical and scientific fields.

Additionally, the governments of India and Portugal will each contribute $2 million in funding to the program for5 years. An exchange program between higher education institutions of Portugal and India’s IITs have been signed. PM Modi personally congratulated Dr. Chaturvedi on the signing of the MoU. The signing MoU could signal further collaborations between Portugal and India in the field of higher education.
