M Nageswara Rao, interim CBI chief, promoted to additional director

On Tuesday, the interim CBI director M Nageswara Rao was promoted to the rank of an additional director by the government.

Appointments Committee of the union cabinet cleared Roa’s name for the post.

A 1986-batch IPS officer from the Odisha cadre, Rao,  was appointed as interim chief of the CBI on October 24 following governments intervention in Director CBI Alok Verma’s and Special Director Rakesh Asthana’s fight.

After his appointment, both Verma and Asthana were sent on leave with immediate effect.
