According to ABC News, Theriault was charged with deception, dishonestly dealing with documents and abuse of public office in September 2017. She was sentenced to 25 months in jail with a non-parole period of 12 months on December 3, 2019, by District Court Judge Michael Boylan.

She had fabricated her resume with fake work and education history then submitted falsified payslips and mentioned fake references while applying for the job.

By doing so, she successfully managed to secure a position as the Chief Information Officer with an annual salary of 270,000 Australian dollars (Rs 1,32,08,437) within the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) in Southern Australia Government, reported CNN.

She served the public office for over a month and earned around 33,000 Australian dollars (which is Rs 16,14,776) before being fired. However, it was found much later that Theriault had presented a fraudulent resume while applying for the job.

Reportedly, she had even used a picture of Kate Upton as her LinkedIn profile photo. Moreover, after joining DPC, she also gave her brother a contract despite him lacking the required qualifications.

The department became suspicious of Theriault after her mental health started deteriorating soon after joining the office as reports suggested that she had bipolar disorder.
