IIT Madras scholar allegedly beaten up for participating in Beef Fest

R Sooraj, a PhD student of aerospace engineering in IIT Madras was beaten up by the right wing groups on Tuesday for allegedly participating in Beef Fest that was held in IIT on Sunday evening. He was surrounded by a group of ABVP member during lunch time at hostel canteen, according to the reports.

Sooraj was severely injured in one of his eyes and the organizers have decided to complain the dean and the police for this incident, according to his friends.

The fest was held by the around 80-90 students of IIT, Chennai to protest against government’s notification to ban the sale of cattle for slaughter in markets across the country.

On Tuesday, earlier the Madurai bench of Madras High Court had stayed on the central government’s decision.
