Coping with the tsunami

Date:

New Delhi: Not all are humoured by Narendra Modi’s victory. Jayalalithaa the southern political goddess lost two seats and in retaliation sacked four ministers. As if not to be outdone, Akhilesh Yadav the northern mini-supremo sacked 36 ministers. Mamata Banerjee the eastern stormy petrel was the least amused of Modi’s mega victories and decided in cold blood to boycott the grand show. Mayawati the statue maker, who’s in love with her own statue, dismantled her party organisation in sheer frustration.

Many in Jaya’s party believe the ministers were shown the door largely due the poor showing in their constituencies which denied a 39 on 39 victory for AIADMK. Though the party won in all other constituencies, sources add the AIADMK chief was unhappy with the drop in percentage of votes garnered by the party in western Tamil Nadu.

Yadav who sacked 36 ministers, ruled out his own resignation, on the lines of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Instead leaders of six minority communities were sacked with rumours of further such acts after reviews on the poor performance.

Mayawati dissolved her party’s organisational units threating to hold back tickets in the future for non-performing MLAs.

However, now there is second thoughts in Kolkata whether a cash-strapped Bengal can do without the Centre’s help.
