- Disney has found the ‘Mowgli’ for their ‘ Jungle Book’ adaptation in the 10-year-old Indian origin boy, Neel Sethi. Sethi, a novice from New York, will portray the young boy who is raised by jungle animals in the film, which would be helmed by Jon Favreau and scripted by Justin Marks. Favreau said that it was vital to find the right kid for Mowgli, and the they were happy with their choice as Sethi was really talented and could handle the pressure of getting the character right. Sethi would also be the only actor to appear in the live-action and animation project, which has already confirmed Idris Elba’s voice for tiger Shere Khan, Ben Kingsley’s voice for black panther Bagheera.

- Scientists in East Sussex have developed a material so black that the human eye cannot understand what it is seeing. The substance, named Vantablack, has been grown on sheets of aluminium foil. On any surface it absorbs virtually all light that hits it, which is why it is invisible to the eye. It is made from tiny carbon nanotubes – each 10,000 times thinner than a human hair. These nanotubes are packed together so tightly that light cannot bounce off them. It’s hoped in future it could be used to help with the set up of special cameras looking deep into space.

- Thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes as Typhoon Rammasun batters the Philippines in south east Asia. The powerful typhoon is the strongest storm to hit the country this year. Authorities say at least four people have been killed by the storm and more than 370,000 people are taking shelter in places like schools and gymnasiums. Winds of up to 185 kilometres an hour have brought down trees and knocked out power lines. Rammasun is now moving towards the Chinese island of Hainan. The storm comes less than year since the Phillipines was hit by Typhoon Haiyan, said to be one of the worst storms on record.

- Hogwarts Castle opened its doors to Japanese fans on Tuesday at the new Harry Potter theme park in Osaka. Movie stars Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) and Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) officially opened the park by casting a magic spell. Hundreds of fans queued up to be there as the doors opened at Universal Studios.

- The joint efforts of Arizona State University (ASU) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) have brought out the most detailed global map of Mars’ surface. A heat-sensing camera designed at Arizona State University has provided data to create the most detailed global map which uses data from the Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS), a nine-band visual and infrared camera on NASA’s Mars Odyssey orbiter.
