Why Generations loved HAHK

Date:

Do you know, it’s been 21 years since the iconic movie Hum Aapke Hain Koun hit the silver screen. If that makes you feel old, cheer up, it’s alright. There are no second thoughts when it comes to Rajshri productions, which never disappoints the audience with its strong storyline, characters and the values portrayed. These are family movies that you can grab your tub of popcorn and enjoy with your family without being embarrassed.

The Salman Khan-Madhuri Dixit starrer ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’, directed by Sooraj Barjatya has completed 21 years on Thursday and is still continuing to win our hearts.

NewsMobile gives you 18 amazing reasons to fall in love with the flick all over again!

1. Love is not selfish:

Be it the star couple Prem (Salman) and Nisha (Madhuri) or Rajesh (Mohnish Behl) and Pooja (Renuka Shahane), they have taught us that love is not selfish. It is above our own happiness. Sacrifice and trust are the essence of true love. Love lessons, Barjatya way!

2. It’s all about family:

Barjatya flicks show us how a family that lives together is the happiest. Playing sports, sharing sorrows, celebrating happiness — all these are incomplete without family, and that’s what a big chunk of Hum Aapke Hain Koun is about. The film which had family values like sacrifice, love, unity, respect, obedience was no less than a depiction of perfect relations drama all together. Not only was the theme of the story, but each character of the story portrayed an optimistic approach to every situation.

3.  Tuffy!!

No one can deny that Tuffy’s character was one of the most adorable ones. The flick teaches us how even a dog understands love and in a way gives us a message to love animals. He was the actual hero of the movie and without him things would have been a chaos. Agreed?

4.   They’re not monsters-in-law!

The film depicts the fact that in-laws are not bad but are extremely loving and caring. It reflects the loving relationship between two families after marriage. Isn’t it beautiful?

5.  Barbie bhabi

Renuka was just like a barbie doll — beautiful and doll-like. Her relationship with her devar Salman was so beautiful picturised. And let’s admit, it was kinda cute when Prem would share his secrets with her.

6. Wedding ritual guide book

The flick gave a new meaning to what marriage fun is all about. From rituals like ‘Joota Chupai’ to ‘Vidai’, things have been directed so beautifully that it takes away the heart of the audience.

7. Flirting best practices:

Coughing counts as flirting. Cough, cough, and cough and you know she likes you!. Before Hum Aapke Hain Koun, coughing meant a bad throat. After Hum Aapke Hain Koun, coughing meant a hundred different things.

8.  Mind-reading parents

Parents are mind readers and want you to marry the man you are dating, even if you’ve never introduced him at home, especially the mothers.

9.  Everyone is equal:

The movie actually has a message for all those who treat servants in a bad way. The way Prem used to love Lalloo Prasad was heart touching. Even he loved them like a family. See Salman Khan believed in Being Human since that time!

10.    The songs

‘Wah Wah Ram Ji’ to ‘Didi Tera Devar Deewana’-  the songs are still played in marriages. So imagine the impact. Unlike the ‘yo yos’ of these days!

11.   Sibling love. Aww!

This is the standout of this movie. While Nisha was ready to let go of her love and marry her brother-in-law Rajesh just to take care of her late sister’s baby, even Prem was ready to do the same thing for his brother. Need we say more?

12.   A friend in need, is a friend in deed

Be it bhabhi- devar friendship, sibling’s friendship, dog-man friendship or BFF’s, the film reflects friendship at every level.

13.   Family is all about having fun:

The cricket match, the antakshari session makes us fall in love with Indian families. So much fun it is.

15.   The dialogues

Every guy now uses this before taking the girl on a ride on his bike or for a drive in his car, “Aaj pehli bar koi ladki humari gaadi ke front seat per baithi hai!” Watch the movie for more pick-up lines!

16.   The fashion statement

The new hair styles, especially permed and lehangas worn by Madhuri Dixit became a fashion statement.

17. Big boys do cry!

Salman Khan played the sensitive, cute yet goofy Prem and Madhuri Dixit killed it with her role as the naughty and vivacious Nisha. Girls just wanted to be that girl and boys wanted to be with that girl.

18.   The amazing additional characters:

Bhagwanti Mami, Everyone loved to hate her. She was like the Joffrey Baratheon of Hum Aapke Hain Koun. The character of Kailashnath played by none other than the sanskari Alok Nath, Rita who also wanted to marry Prem and many more add to the interest of the viewers.

Admit it or not, we all cried watching the super amazing flick!
