IIT-Kanpur adopts villages under Namami Gange

Kanpur, Aug 18 (PTI) IIT-Kanpur has adopted five villagesunder the Namami Gange programme and will use its expertise torestrict the flow of sewage into the river. The task will be undertaken by the institute’s civilengineering department, said professor of civil engineering atIIT-Kanpur, Vinod Tare. The five villages adopted by the institute are RamelNagar, Khoyra Katree, Pratapur, Hari Hindpur, and Katri LadhvaKhera. Tare said IIT-Kanpur is one of the 13 educationalinstitutes directed by the Centre to adopt villages and turnthem into role models in sanitation for others to replicate. Under the initiative, IIT-Kanpur will ensure sewage wateris not disposed of in the river, and also keep a check onquality of drinking water and sanitation, he said.
