New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI) A man has been arrested forallegedly carrying foreign currency worth nearly Rs two croreat Indira Gandhi International Airport here. The accused was intercepted by the officials ofDirectorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) when he was trying toboard a flight to Dubai. On personal and baggage search, currencies i.e. Euros2,50,500 (Rs 1.9 crore) have been recovered from him, a seniorDRI official said today. The accused, who hails from Delhi, has made six foreignvisits this year alone. He was arrested yesterday, the officialsaid. As per rules, there is no cap on carrying foreign currencyby an Indian national provided he gives a valid proof of itslegal source. The arrest comes after another seizure of foreign currencyworth Rs five crore on August 18. Four persons were arrested bythe DRI in this case. In most of these cases, the foreign currency is handedover to passenger going abroad by a domestic passenger, hesaid. The DRI, an intelligence arm under the Finance Ministry,has seized more than Rs 16 crore worth foreign currencies sinceApril this year. PTI AKV DIP DVDIP
