Global Hunger Index: India ranks 97 of 118

Date:

Indices are the reminder of how far we fall behind on our goals to achieve maximum happiness for all. India ranks lowly 97 among 118 countries in Global Hunger Index(GHI) calculated this year. Other than Afghanistan and Pakistan, all Indian neighbours fared better than India in the index.

The index is measured on four parameters: shares of undernourished population, wasted and stunted children aged under 5, and infant mortality rate of the same age group. Where, wasting refers to low weight in relation to a child’s height. The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) makes the annual calculations of GHI. It found that an estimated 15% population is undernourished in India. The analysis over past data concludes that, India’s ranking is worse than it was 15 years ago.
