Pakyong Airport gets license, now fly directly to Sikkim

Sikkim, a beautiful state in the northeast, nestled in the Himalayas is set to join the aviation network of the country. This has come true with the Pakyong airport obtaining a license on Friday to go on with the commercial operation.
The great news was shared by Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu. He took to Twitter to share the news, saying the license would pave the way for direct air connectivity to the state, giving a boost to tourism and economic growth.

Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted, “The Pakyong (Gangtok) Airport at Sikkim got a license today for scheduled operations. It’s an engineering marvel at a height of more than 4,500 ft in a tough terrain. Will pave way for direct air connectivity to our lovely state of Sikkim, giving a boost to tourism & economic growth,”
State Civil Aviation Minister Jayant Sinha said, The Pakyong airport, which is about 30kms from the state capital of Gangtok, will be the 100th operational airport when it begins operation.

Before this Sikkim was the only state which was without a functional airport.
The airport is set to be built at an estimated cost of Rs. 350 crore and was hailed an engineering marvel given the inhospitable terrain and the geographical location of the state
