Depression leads Delhi businessman to kill children, commit suicide

In an unfortunate incident, a man killed his two minor children and then committed suicide by jumping in front of a metro train, near Shalimar Bagh in new Delhi.

As per reports, the deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Madhur Malani, who, as per initial inquiries by Delhi Police, could have been suffering from depression. He was unemployed and had suffered a huge loss in his business, a sandpaper factory that shut down six months ago.

The Delhi Police had received an emergency call at 6.54 pm and on reaching Shalimar Bagh, found the dead bodies of the two children, identified as 14-year-old Samiksha and her six-year-old brother Shreyans. They appeared to have been strangled and their bodies were found in their respective beds.

The mother, who had bene away to the market, had returned to find the bodies. Her husband was missing. It was later that they connected it to the suicide reported from Haiderpur metro station at 5.40 pm.

According to the police, he could have killed his children in the afternoon and then committed suicide later in the day. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and further investigations are underway.
