Karnataka: Lockdown may extend by two weeks in hotspots; bakeries permitted to stay open

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government may extend the lockdown in place by further two weeks in atleast the hotspots identified in the states. The government has also permitted the bakeries in the state to remain open.

The Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar said that a few days is needed to assess the situation before deciding on the extension of the lockdown.

He said that in atleast the hotspot regions, the lockdown can be extended. Speaking to PTI, he said:

“ Where there are red alerts and zones, those zones, in my opinion, should continue to be in a lockdown situation atleast for two weeks…till the month end, I will request the centre to do this.”

The Minister also wanted against sudden influx of people after the lifting of the lockdown and said that the lockdown should be lifted only gradually.

The Minister also said that the state’s financial situation is precarious due to lack of tax revenue and added that some expenditure will have to be cut down.

Meanwhile, the Agricultural Department in the state has authorised bakeries to remain open.

An order issued by the State Agricultural Secretary Rajendar Kumar Kataria said that the bakeries shall maintain social distancing and shall imbibe hygienic practices during this period.
