Fact Check: Old Video From Jharkhand Revived With False Claim Of Lady Being Assaulted In UP

Date:

Days after Yogi Adityanath was sworn in as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister for the second time in a row, a video has gone viral showing a man assaulting a woman in front of some policemen. The video is being widely shared with captions suggesting that this is the new reality under the BJP-led UP government.

Sharing the video, a Facebook user wrote: “Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s police administration boosting the respect of women….! Such cases have become common every day in the current BJP government!”

The video is also doing rounds on Twitter with the same claim.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral video and found it to be shared with a false claim.

On performing Reverse Image Search, we found the same visuals in a News18 Bihar Jharkhand report which was uploaded on YouTube on July 27, 2020. “CM Hemant’s serious tweet on woman’s assault; wrote – The incident is shameful, not worth tolerating.”

We then further checked and found a tweet by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren‘s tweet. His tweet in Hindi translates to, “This is a totally unfair and shameful act, which is not tolerable. , @MVRaoIPSSir, while investigating the matter, take strict action against the guilty and inform..”

The Telegraph also reported the incident, according to which, an officer in charge, Harish Pathak, who was posted in CM Soren’s constituency in Barhet in Sahebganj, was suspended hours after a video showing him brutally assaulting a 20-year-old girl went viral on social media. On July 22, 2020, OC had summoned the girl to record her statement in connection to her kidnap case filed by her mother against one Ramu Mandal and his father. However, Pathak lost his cool when the girl told him that she is in love with Ramu, dismissing the complaint filed by her mother.

On July 25, the girl lodged a complaint against Pathak but to no avail.

Hence, with the above information, it can be concluded that the viral claim is false.
