₹75 Coin To Be Launched To Commemorate Inauguration Of New Parliament Building

Date:

New Delhi: A special ₹75 coin will be launched to commemorate the inauguration of the new Parliament building on May 28, Ministry oif Finance announced on Friday.

The commemorative coin is a tribute to India’s 75 years of independence and will be unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.

One side of the coin will showcase the Lion Capital of the Ashoka Pillar, with the words “Satyamev Jayate” inscribed beneath it. On the left side, the word “Bharat” will be written in Devanagari script, while “India” will appear in English on the right side.

The coin will also display the rupee symbol and the denomination value of 75 in international numerals beneath the Lion Capital. The other side of the coin will feature an image of the parliament complex. “Sansad Sankul” will be inscribed in Devanagari script on the upper periphery, and “Parliament Complex” in English on the lower periphery.

Measuring 44 millimeters in diameter, the circular coin will bear 200 serrations along its edges. Weighing 35 grams, it will be composed of a four-part alloy consisting of 50% silver, 40% copper, 5% nickel, and 5% zinc.

Simultaneously, the new parliament building will also be inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi on Sunday. While approximately 25 parties are expected to attend the ceremony, at least 20 opposition parties have decided to boycott the event.

Opposition parties have expressed their disagreement with Prime Minister Modi’s choice to inaugurate the new parliament building instead of President Droupadi Murmu.

The Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Left, Trinamool, and Samajwadi Party, among others, have announced their decision to boycott the inauguration, citing the perceived loss of democratic essence.

In response to the opposition’s stance, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) criticized the decision to boycott the inauguration, deeming it a direct attack on democratic values and the constitutional principles of the country.
