Against the backdrop, two visuals — probably taken inside a church, allegedly captured after the attack in Nigeria — have gone viral on social media.
The post is shared on Facebook with a caption: “Nigeria — New photos from within a church where at Christmas Christians were massacred in the name of Allah. Doing a Reverse Image Search, the NM team traced an Al Jazeera report, dated June 6, 2022, featuring an image of the ransacked church revealing that armed individuals with explosives attacked St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo — a town in Nigeria’s Ondo State. The attackers opened fire, resulting in the tragic death of at least 50 people.
Furthermore, an ABC News report from the same day also featured the same photo, credited to Associated Press photographer Rahaman A Yusuf.
The stock photo website Alamy also carries both viral photos.
Thus, we can conclusively say that both images are unrelated to the recent bandit attack in Nigeria.
