Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin secured victory in the Russian Presidential elections, receiving 87.17% of the votes based on the result of processing 70% of the electoral protocols. This data was given out by TASS citing the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation.
Candidate Nikolai Kharitonov of the Russian Federation’s Communist Party came in second place with 4.1 per cent of the vote, while Vladislav Davanlov of the New People Party came in third place with 4.8 per cent. Leonid Slutsky, the candidate for the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, only garnered 3.15 per cent of the total votes cast.

- According to preliminary data as of 6 pm (Moscow time) on Sunday, the voter turnout in the presidential elections, which over first time took place over three days from March 15-17 stood at 74.22%. Voter turnout for the elections held in 2018 where he secured 76.69 percent of the votes. The performance of the other candidates was lower than that of the previous competitors of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as per various reports.
- In 2018, Pavel Grudinin who was the candidate for the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, received 11.77 per cent of the votes while LPDR candidate Vladimir Zhirinovsky bagged 5.65% of the votes. According to reports from the Russian agency TASS, all three parties’ candidates for president in 2024 can expect financial support from the federal budget. The report also stated that according to the law, all parties are entitled to funding regardless of whether their candidate for president surpasses the three per cent threshold. The party will get 152 Roubles for each vote.
- It was also the first time that remote electronic voting was used for the Presidential polls in Russia. In 28 areas, citizens adopted the Federal platform, and voters in Moscow used theirs. 94% of voters cast ballots online during the final round of the federal platform’s online voting, with 4.4 million persons participating. Nearly 3,7 million electronic ballots were cast in Moscow, including those cast by voters using specialized terminals at polling places.
- The results of the remote electronic voting on the federal platform show that Davankov received 6.28 votes, while Putin received 87.41% of the total. Of the total votes counted, Kharitokov obtained only 2.56%, while Slutsky came in second at 3.75%.
- Putin also secured handsome wins in Donbas and Novorossiya by huge margins. He also posted wins in areas of Ukraine such as Kherson, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Donstek as per the Russian news agency TASS. Based on the results of processing 100% of the protocols, Putin received 88.12% votes in the Donetsk People’s Republic as per TASS.
- Putin arrived at his election headquarters and expressed his gratitude to his staff while stressing to make Russia stronger and more effective. He thanked the people of Russia who supported the country’s military actions in Ukraine.
- Kharitonov stated that the observers from the communist party of the Russian Federation did not record any serious violations during the elections as per the state agency. The agency added that Slutsky said there were no serious violations and called the incident reported by the LDPR very minor rough edges.
- Davankov said he was pleased to take second place according to the results of remote electoral voting as per the agency. Putin has served four terms as Russian President. He was elected first in 2000, 2004, 2012 and 2018.
