FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.
Performing a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, the NM team traced the related news with visuals on India Today’s website, dated April 1, 2024. As per the news, the Election Commission has sent a notice to the organisers of an Iftar party on the road in Mangalore, Karnataka. The Election Commission’s notice came after several videos went viral on social media showing some chairs and food plates on one side of the road in the Mudipu area.
Related news on the same date can also be seen on India TV’s website, stating that the Model Code of Conduct is in force because of the Lok Sabha elections. After the video of the Iftar party on the road in Mangalore surfaced, the Election Commission has taken cognizance of it. The Commission has issued a notice to the organiser of the programme.
Thus, it is clear that an Iftar party organised on a road in Karnataka is falsely shared as an incident from West Bengal.
