IPL 2024: Bowlers Shine As Delhi Capitals Defeat Gujarat Titans In Low Scoring Clash

Date:

Ahmedabad: A stellar bowling performance by the Delhi Capitals (DC) set the stage for their six-wicket triumph over the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday. The DC bowlers showcased their prowess, restricting the GT batting lineup effectively. Subsequent cameos from Jake Fraser-McGurk, Abhishek Porel, and Shai Hope ensured that DC successfully chased down the target, securing a convincing win.

Openers Prithvi Shaw and Jake Fraser-McGurk managed just 25 runs together before McGurk was dismissed for a brisk 20 off 10 balls, featuring two boundaries and two sixes. Shaw soon followed, departing after contributing a mere seven runs to the team’s total. At 31/2 in 2.4 overs.

Hope and Porel unleashed an onslaught, adding a rapid 34-run partnership in just 14 balls. Porel’s cameo of 15 runs off seven balls, studded with two fours and a six, was crucial. However, at 67 runs, DC lost the wicket of Hope, who scored 19 runs, including two maximums and a boundary. With the team at 67/4 in 5.4 overs, Rishabh Pant and Sumit Kumar took charge, steering DC to victory with an unbeaten partnership of 25 runs, wrapping up the match just inside nine overs.

Earlier, fiery bowling performances from Tristan Stubbs, Ishant Sharma, and Mukesh Kumar dismantled the Gujarat Titans’ batting lineup, restricting them to a mere 89 runs in 17.3 overs during their IPL match against the Delhi Capitals.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the Gujarat Titans’ innings got off to a promising start with skipper Shubman Gill finding the boundary early on. However, a crucial wicket by Ishant Sharma in the second over dented their progress, dismissing Gill for just eight runs. Despite Sai Sudarshan’s brief resistance, the Titans struggled to establish partnerships, losing wickets at regular intervals.

Despite a valiant effort from Rashid Khan, who scored 31 runs off 24 balls, including two fours and a six, the Titans could only muster a total of 89 runs before being bowled out in 17.3 overs.

Mukesh Kumar emerged as the top bowler for the Delhi Capitals with figures of 3/14, while Stubbs and Ishant Sharma also made significant contributions with two wickets each. With a dominant bowling performance, the Delhi Capitals secured a comprehensive victory over the Gujarat Titans, reaffirming their strength as a formidable force in the IPL 2024 tournament.

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to bowl first against Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans. After winning the toss DC captain Rishabh Pant said, “We’ll bowl first. It’s an unknown wicket, our batting is strong and we would want to chase, there could be some dew in the second innings as well. We’ll have to play good cricket, just taking one match at a time. Death bowling has been a little concern, but at the same time, the bowlers are getting better with every match. We’re looking at gaining some momentum. We’re playing almost the same team – David Warner is sitting out, Sumit Kumar is back.”
