Fact Check: 2014 Clip Viral Falsely Claiming It’s the Missile Attack On Israel By Iran

Date:

Iran launched a major aerial attack on Israel after a suspected Israeli strike on its consulate in Syria two weeks earlier. It’s the first direct Iranian attack — Operation True Promise — on the Israeli territory. Meanwhile, a video has surfaced on social media claiming that Yemen also fired missiles at Israel at the same time.

The Facebook post reads: “After the launch of suicide drones by Iranians towards Israel, Yemen has also launched missiles at Israel. Tel Aviv is on high alert and Iron Dome is ready.”

The above post can be seen here. (Archive)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

Performing a Reverse Image Search on the viral video keyframes, the NM team identified a video uploaded in November 2014. It purportedly depicted a GRAD missile attack on the Donbass region by the Ukrainian army.

We also discovered another video of the identical attack on YouTube, dated December 3, 2014, with a caption: “Powerful night salvo from hail (sic).”

We found a cross-post by the @Conflicts handle, dated December 1, 2014, featuring a keyframe from the same video. It states: “Massive Ukrainian Grad barrage against #NAF positions in eastern #Ukraine.”

The inactive YouTube link associated with the cross-post suggests that the video has been circulating online since 2014. Thus, it confirms that it is not related to the recent Israel-Iran conflict.
