FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact checked the claim, and found it to be misleading.

Running the Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, the NM team found the full speech on Rahul Gandhi’s official YouTube channel, dated April 20, 2024, with a title: “live: Lok Sabha 2024 Campaign | Public Meeting | Bhagalpur, Bihar.”

To further verify, we reviewed the Congress manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha Election and found that the Apprenticeship Right is also mentioned in the manifesto.

Upon reviewing the entire speech, we found that Rahul Gandhi did not promise ₹8,500 per month to youth using Instagram and Facebook. Instead, the Congress leader addressed the issue of unemployment and proposed a Right to Apprenticeship for people with college degrees and diplomas who are under 25.

In his speech Gandhi takes a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the unemployment issue. At 09:30 mark in the speech he says “Narendra Modi has made India the centre of unemployment. Ask any youth what they do, they say they don’t do anything. They use Instagram and Facebook six-seven hours a day. Why? Because Narendra Modi has spread unemployment in the entire country. Those who used to provide employment were eliminated by Narendra Modi through demonetisation and GST conduct. The result is that employment cannot be created in India today.”

At 11:08 mark, Rahul Gandhi talks about apprenticeship rights for graduates and diploma holders. He says “We will grant all graduates and diploma holders in India an apprenticeship right. This apprenticeship right means every single youth in India will have the right to their first job, our next elected government will ensure. Similar to MGNREGA guarantees employment rights, we will provide graduates the right for their first job.”

The Congress leader then goes on to explain the First job right. At 11:50 mark in the speech, Gandhi says: “First job right means all graduates and diploma holders in India will receive a one-year apprenticeship, ₹1 lakh annually, ₹8,500 per month will be deposited into their bank accounts. They will undergo training, and if they perform well in the first year, they will be offered permanent jobs. These apprenticeship opportunities will be available in the private sector, public sector units, and government. Crores of youth will get training and India will get a trained workforce, and our youth who are now roaming around the streets, who scroll through Instagram, Facebook, ₹1 lakh annually…₹8,500 per month, will be deposited in their account by our government.”

Thus, it is clear that Rahul Gandhi did not promise ₹8,500 per month to youth who are using Instagram and Facebook. Therefore, the viral claim is False.
