These Delivery Services Are Ensuring Safe Meals Amid COVID-19

Date:

As the country grapples with the second wave of COVID-19, food availability has emerged as a serious area of concern, especially for the elderly and people who do not have help at home or cannot cook while they care for affected family members.

Covid Meals for India, pan-India

The need for balanced meals for those affected by covid-19 across the country, who can’t cook for themselves, prompted celebrity chef Saransh Goila to curate a list of home chefs, tiffin services and dabbawalas, who could whip up simple, nutritious food at this time. The website follows a simple interface.

All you need to do is choose your state, and city (optional), click on ‘Find Food’ and it takes you to a detailed list of delivery services. Each number on the list is verified by Chef Saransh’s team.

The idea is that not a single-family or household in any neighbourhoood, affected by the pandemic, should go hungry at this time.

Doorstep food delivery by Noida gurdwara

Shri Guru Singh Sabha gurdwara in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida Sector-18 is providing two meals a day to the infected patients at their doorstep.

Giani Gurpreet Singh, Head Granthi of Shri Guru Singh Sabha, told IANS,”We had been running this service since September last year, later we stopped our services for a few months due to improvement in the Covid situation, but after April 8 we have resumed this service.” “I have started getting calls from places other than Noida. We are not able to help every person in need because we do not have enough manpower,” he added.

Zomato’s food delivery

Food delivery app service Zomato on Wednesday rolled out a feature to prioritise deliveries related to Covid-19 emergency on its app, co-founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal said. “Today, along with thousands of our restaurant partners, we just rolled out a “priority delivery for covid emergencies” feature on the Zomato app. This feature will allow our customers to mark *This order is related to a Covid-19 emergency* option during checkout,” Goyal said in a tweet.

Goyal further said that Zomato would prioritise these orders by assigning the fastest rider and dedicated customer support in case of queries. “Thousands of restaurants have pledged to prioritise these orders in their kitchens above all others,” he said.
