Dadri lynch: Sangeet Som accuses SP govt of ‘one-sided’ probe

Date:

Dadri: BJP lawmaker Sangeet Som, accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots case of 2013, on Sunday visited Dadri in Uttar Pradesh where 52-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq was killed by a mob on Monday night allegedly over rumours that he had eaten beef.

He accused the ruling Samajwadi Party government of appeasing the minority community. Attacking the Akhilesh Yadav-led government, he alleged that investigation into the killing was “one-sided.”

“Law should behave like law, otherwise we are capable of replying as we did in the past,” said the BJP MLA, who is also an accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots case.

Som said he would try to get those arrested in the Dadri lynching case out on bail. He was addressing a meeting in Bishahda, Dadri despite the imposition of restrictions under Section 144 in the area.

When asked if he would condemn the lynching, he said, “Let the enquiry report come first.”

Som dubbed the Dadri lynching incident as extremely unfortunate and said that some people were trying to create tensions in Uttar Pradesh.

“This is unfortunate that the religious sentiments are being hurt very frequently in Uttar Pradesh. And the BJP won’t let that happen, nobody’s religious sentiments should be hurt, those who cause this kind of tension should know that the people will not remain quiet,” Som said.

“The incident is unfortunate but the atmosphere in the village is more unfortunate as there has been one sided investigation,” he added.
