Nitishs decision final will elect new leader: Yadav

Date:

Patna: JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav said Nitish Kumar would not withdraw his resignation. “The decision was taken in the interest of party and keeping in mind the national politics,” said Yadav, ahead of the the JD(U) legislature meeting to discuss the ongoing situation after Nitish

Ruling out any tie-up with Lalu Yadav’s RJD, he also said the new leader will be elected today. Yadav’s statement comes a day after Nitish said he needed time till Monday to decided on the plea by JD(U) MLAs that he should withdraw his resignation and continue in office.

On Sunday, JD(U) MLAs unanimously chose Nitish Kumar as their leader and insisted that he should withdraw his resignation. While Nitish initially rejected their requests, he later sought a day’s time after party MLAs continued to protest against his decision. The JD(U) legislature party is set to meet again on Monday to take a final call.

Sharad Yadav, who had earlier justified Nitish’s decision to resign and said he should not accept re-election as legislature party leader, faced protests from the partymen.

On Saturday, Kumar had resigned, taking “moral responsibility” for his party’s disastrous performance in Bihar. The political crisis in Bihar arising out of the resignation of Nitish as chief minister following the severe drubbing that JD-U suffered in the Lok Sabha elections remained unresolved with the party failing to elect its “new” leader.
