An open letter to ‘dear’ Mumbai Police

Date:

It’s the time when open letters are trending. With so much angst in people about many weird things that authorities of all kinds pull up, the junta uses the internet to vent out its pent up frustration and give its two cents on things that matter.

From beef ban to porn blackout, everyone has an opinion and one of the most powerful ways to let the world and its wife know is by penning down these open letters. Recently, when the Mumbai Police decided to switch to ‘moral policing’, dragging out young couples from hotel rooms and embarrassing them, akkarbakkar.com carried an open letter which reflected the way many of us think.

Addressed to ‘Dear Mumbai Police’, the letter spoke to the ‘busy’ police, which might have several other ‘hotels and pubs and parks to raid in this country’. Thanking the police for saving the daughter, who would have been pregnant ‘if it weren’t for’ them, the person goes on to talk about how ‘shamelessly’ they pay for hotels and produce their ids, when they should have the sense of giving ‘fake proof’.

They didn’t really have to do it, the author says, you know, ‘Being up all night to raid hotels to find couples performing a heinous crime needs dedication.’ The author takes a dig at the ‘suspension over the liquor racket incident’.

Sex is described as a ‘gruesome crime behind closed doors’. The author talks about the ‘shameless’ daughter, who ‘deserves to be slapped’ because she doesn’t care about train accidents, or floods or the fact that ‘FDI isn’t happening’ and just cares about sex. She forgets all the hate in the world and ‘shut doors to perform an act of love’.

The author talks about all the rapes and bribes and the missed ‘terrorists and sex rackets’, but instead the cops choose to slap the daughters, for not doing it in front of them, because ‘flashing penises in heavy traffic and grabbing boobs at public places don’t bring you humiliation do they?’

The frustration of the author becomes even more evident when there are flashbacks to the Mangalore pub incident, the V Days when couples were married off. Since the men weren’t raping, but loving her, the daughters ‘MUST BE SLAPPED’.

The author stops short because it is the ‘daughter who was humiliated to a point where she wanted to commit suicide for no fault of hers.’ The author also says that if the cops ‘find sex ‘indecent’’, then the author feels ‘sorry’ for their wives and husbands.

Explaining ‘public indecency’ to the ‘dear saints’ as taking a ‘bribe shamelessly in public’ or ‘when you paint the walls with urine each and every day of your life’ the author says that the daughter has the permission to ‘do’ what she feels like. ‘With her consent. Consent, a word you’ll never understand the meaning of — I taught her well.’

The author, aptly, signs off ‘With lots of hate’
