Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced an extension of the national lockdown till May 3 to contain the deadly coronavirus.
Here are the top developments from Southern India this Tuesday evening:
1. There has been a sudden spurt in number of cases in the last 24 hours in Kurnool (7) and Anantpur (2) in Andhra Pradesh. The state government is finding the causes and is trying to contain the spread.
2. Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced that the state government will be intensifying the checking and will further reduce the number of cases in the states. He added that in the next few days, ADGP level police officers will be deployed in Mysuru, Kalburgi, Bidar, Vijaypura, Belgavi and Dakshin Kannada districts to tackle the situation.

3. Tamil Nadu has reported an increase in the number of Child marriage cases in the state during the period of the lockdown, according to the state government.
4. Karnataka Minister Suresh Kumar said that the state has beaten the curve and has performed well above the national average and has fewer deaths and fewer cases being reported on a daily basis.
5. The Bengaluru Police has started the registration of FIR’s against shopkeepers who aren’t practicing social distancing. This was done after spreading adequately awareness of the same.
