Brazil Dam tragedy: 34 dead, over 300 missing; Israel to send help

Date:

Thirty-four people have died while over 300 are missing after a dam collapsed at an iron ore mine in south-eastern Brazil on Friday.

Nearly 200 people have been rescued while the hope of finding the missing people is fading, according to the officials.

Dozens of helicopters were used in the rescue operation Saturday. By the last count, nearly 300 people were missing, virtually all of them mine workers listed by Vale, the officials said.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro flew over the devastated zone and later in a tweet said that tweeted that it was hard not to get emotional after seeing the scale of the devastation.

Meanwhile, Israel will send aid and a rescue team to Brazil to help with rescue efforts, Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu informed.

“I spoke with @jairbolsonaro following the dam collapse disaster in Brazil. I offered that Israel would dispatch aid to the disaster site and assist in the search for survivors. He thanked me and accepted my offer. We agreed then an Israeli mission would leave within 24 hours,” he tweeted.
