Washington: US President Donald Trump has indicated that the ongoing war with Iran could come to an end in the near future, although he has not explained how the conflict would be resolved.
Speaking to Kansas City radio station KCMO on Friday, Trump said, “It’s going to get wrapped up soon,” expressing confidence that the war would conclude shortly.
However, the US President made it clear that any agreement to end the conflict must include firm assurances that Iran will never develop nuclear weapons.
Emphasising Washington’s position, Trump said, “We need a guarantee there’ll never be a nuclear weapon.”
His comments come ahead of the November 3 midterm congressional elections in the United States. Trump has previously stated that the US would not launch an attack on Iran before the elections.
While signalling that the conflict may be nearing its end, the President did not provide a specific timeline or outline the steps being considered to achieve a resolution.
The remarks highlight Washington’s continued focus on preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons as discussions surrounding a possible end to the war continue.
