Canadian real estate CEO David Morton and his two daughters were shot, while his wife was injured after three masked men allegedly broke into their family residence in Toronto’s affluent Bridle Path neighbourhood in the early hours of Thursday.
The attack took place at around 3:45 am on October 29 at the family’s gated property on Hyde Park Circle. According to media reports, the intruders entered through a rear entrance carrying handguns and a hammer before demanding money and valuables from the occupants.
A confrontation reportedly followed, during which multiple shots were fired. Morton, 75, and his daughters, Maggie and Cristina Zohil-Morton, sustained gunshot wounds, while his wife, Doriana Zohil-Morton, was struck with a hammer.
All four family members were rushed to hospital. Two victims suffered life-altering injuries, while the other two sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Police have not publicly identified which family members suffered the more serious injuries.
The attackers reportedly fled the scene in an SUV following the assault. Authorities are investigating the incident as a possible robbery, although it remains unclear whether any valuables were taken or whether the family was specifically targeted.
Morton heads Toronto-based MAC Group, a family-owned business with interests in real estate, hospitality and corporate housing. His wife, Doriana, is associated with the company as its president. Their daughter Cristina is reportedly the founder of Zohil-Morton Law, which specialises in Canadian immigration services.
Toronto Police Inspector Kristy Smith said investigators were working to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify the suspects. Police have appealed to residents in the neighbourhood to share surveillance footage, doorbell recordings or dashcam videos that could assist the investigation.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow condemned the incident and expressed concern for the family. She also indicated that additional police presence would be deployed in the neighbourhood as authorities continue their investigation.
No arrests had been announced in connection with the attack at the time of reporting.
