COVID-19: Bloody Thursday as US sees 1480 deaths in 24 hours

The US on Thursday saw 1480 Coronavirus related death within a span of 24 hours. This is the highest single day death toll recorded anywhere in the world since the outbreak in December 31, 2019 in Wuhan.

Beginning from 0830 hours (local time), on Thursday, New York at 562 recorded the highest number of causalities till Friday morning. This meant that a death occured every two and half minutes. The state has also witnessed around 3000 deaths totally.

The situation is alarming as the US has emerged as the new epicentre with more than 275,000 cases (quarter of the total number of global cases) and over 7000 deaths till date.

This situation has prompted US President to ban the export of masks and gloves to Canada and other Latin American nations.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has warned of retaliation following the US export embargo.
