The United Nations Security Council(UNSC) has called for the release of Myanmar’s leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who was to take charge as the country’s head for a second term after the outcome of the November 2020 elections. The UNSC is coming down strong on the generals who have seized power of the country in a military coup in Myanmar on Monday and has asked for democracy to be restored.
Even as United States President Joe Biden has taken cognizance of the military coup and is asking for the military to step down even as the Western country is considering slapping sanctions on Mynamar. Meanwhile citizens too have taken to the streets in protest including clanging of tea pots show their disgruntlement to the military takeover.

Meanwhile a key aide of Suu Kyi, Win Htein was arrested on Friday, emphasizing the defiance of the military to reinstate the decade long democratic process in the country after junta rule in the country that had resulted in sanctions imposed by the US on Myanmar.
The National League of Democracy(NLD) which is Suu Kyi’s party, through their verified Facebook page confirmed the arrest of Suu Kyi’s key aide from Yangon. Win Htein had left Naypyidaw for Yangon on Thursday night and was arrested from his daughter’s house on Friday and being held at Naypyidaw police station.
