Dynamo-Pune match devoid of fizz

Date:

This was perhaps the first match of the Indian Super League which ended without much fanfare. In the encounter between Delhi Dynamos and FC Pune City, the results were disappointing as both the teams slumped to a goalless draw on Tuesday.

It was supposed to be French prowess versus Italian panache. As Delhi Dynamos FC locked horns with FC Pune City, all eyes were not just on these imports, but also on Indian talent. Up for some scrutiny were Delhi Dynamos FC’s Steven Dias and FC Pune City’s Mehrajuddin Wadoo. In the toss that involved skippers David Trezeguet and Mads Junker, Trezeguet won the side and decided that Delhi would start the match.

The Delhi side started off with spurts of aggression, never letting the visitors get too close to the ball. Shouvik Ghosh especially was on fire, but the Pune defenders managed to keep him at bay. In the 8th minute, Delhi’s Francis Fernandes created a great window for himself, dribbling it on to skipper Junker, who duly passed it back to him, but all the efforts didn’t really build up to what was needed.

Junker was in the thick of actions yet again, but an effient save by Pune’s Emanuele Belardi in the 11th minute meant there was no damage done. Pune’s Dharmaraj Ravanan tried his best to make forays into the Delhi box, but none of his efforts bore fruit.

With the match going on directionless without any signs of a goal being given or taken, the players began tiring, slowing the tempo all the more.

The next match is between FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC on Wednesday.
